Would DeMar DeRozan fit in Cleveland?

According to Matt George of Sactown Sports 1140, the Cleveland Cavaliers could sign DeMar DeRozan.

The Kings waived DeRozan, making the veteran scorer an unrestricted free agent.

"The two teams that we seem to hear the most chatter about in terms of potential landing destinations for DeMar DeRozan (are) the Miami Heat, who of course just traded for Giannis, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are a team I long thought could use the services of DeMar, especially in that second unit off of the bench," George said.

DeRozan spent the past two seasons with the Kings. He averaged 22.2 points per game during the 2024-25 season and put up 18.4 points per game this past season.

The six-time All-Star turns 37 in August. He's better suited to play for a contender at this stage of his career and the Cavaliers are one of the top teams in the NBA. They reached the Eastern Conference Finals last season, losing to the New York Knicks in four games.

A USC product, DeRozan has career averages of 21.1 points per game with the Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls and Kings. He's been in the NBA since 2009.

Guess who one of DeRozan's closest friends in the NBA is? LeBron James. Most insiders expect LeBron to return to the Cavaliers this offseason, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

Perhaps Cleveland can put the finishing touches on its pursuit of LeBron by signing DeRozan.

As we all know, LeBron is the best player in Cleveland franchise history. In two stints (2003-10, 2014-18) with the Cavaliers, LeBron averaged 27.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.8 blocks per game. He won two MVPs and one Finals MVP and made 10 All-Star and 10 All-NBA teams with his hometown club.

It would certainly be awesome to see LeBron end his career in Cleveland. A starting lineup of James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, LeBron, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen would be lethal and fun to watch.
