According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in making a trade with the Sacramento Kings.
The Cavaliers are eyeing Kings guard Keon Ellis.
The Kings are expected to trade Ellis before the 2026 NBA trade deadline, which is February 5 at 3 p.m. ET.
Ellis is making $2.3 million this season in the final year of his contract. He's averaging 5.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game while shooting 39.5% from the field, 36.2% from beyond the arc and 62.5% from the free-throw line.
Ellis has spent his entire career with the Kings. He holds career averages of 6.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
Sacramento is in 14th place in the Western Conference standings, while Cleveland is in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Ellis, 26, is better suited to play for a winning team at this stage of his career.
The Cavaliers have turned things around after getting off to a slow start this season. They are 29-20 and have won five games in a row.
Cleveland had the top record in the East last season, but the Wine and Gold lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the playoffs in five games. The Cavaliers haven't advanced past the second round of the playoffs since 2018.
It will be fascinating to see if the Cavaliers trade for Ellis. He's not a star, but the Florida native is a quality 3-and-D player.
