The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to trade Lonzo Ball and two second-round picks to the Utah Jazz.
The Jazz are expected to waive Ball.
The Cavaliers acquired Ball from the Chicago Bulls last offseason. Ball is averaging 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game this season while shooting 30.1% from the field, 27.2% from beyond the arc and 66.7% from the free-throw line.
Ball has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, Bulls and Cavaliers. He holds career averages of 10.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. The UCLA product was the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
Cleveland has been busy. The Wine and Gold traded De'Andre Hunter to the Sacramento Kings for Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroder and sent Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers for James Harden.
The Cavaliers are expected to start Harden, Mitchell, Jaylon Tyson, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen moving forward.
Cleveland is in fifth place in the East. The Cavaliers had the best record in the Eastern Conference last season, but they lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the playoffs in five games.
2018 was the last time the Cavaliers advanced past the second round of the playoffs. Mitchell, Mobley and Allen have never been to the conference finals.
