Could LeBron James finish his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers?

According to NBA insider Dave McMenamin of ESPN, the Cleveland Cavaliers are open to a LeBron James reunion.

James, 41, becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The Los Angeles Lakers are building around Luka Doncic now, so they may not re-sign LeBron.

"Multiple team and league sources told ESPN the Cavaliers would gladly welcome James back this summer if he wanted to return to Cleveland for his 24th NBA season and third stint with the team," McMenamin wrote.

James, of course, is the best player in Cavaliers history. He will get his No. 23 jersey retired by the franchise one day. The leading scorer in NBA history holds 33 Cleveland records.

A future Hall of Famer, James has played for his hometown Cavaliers twice. He guided the franchise to its only championship in 2016 against the 73-9 Golden State Warriors. The 2015-16 Cleveland team is the only squad in NBA history to erase a 3-1 series deficit in the NBA Finals.

It would be quite the storybook ending for James to finish his career with the Cavaliers. If James doesn't retire after this season, it appears Cleveland will pursue him in free agency.

In 849 games with the Cavaliers, James averaged 27.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. He won two MVPs and one Finals MVP Award with his hometown squad.

James is the oldest active player in the NBA. It's unknown if the NBA icon plans to play next season. What we do know is that James isn't "washed." He's currently averaging 22.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game for the Lakers.

It will be interesting to see if James plays next season. If he does, will he be back with the Lakers or will he return home? Only time will tell.
