The Cleveland Cavaliers will be shorthanded against the Atlanta Hawks as the playoffs quickly approach.
Everything is starting to fall into place for the Cleveland Cavaliers and their potential playoff path with just two regular-season games left on the schedule.
The Cavaliers will take on the Atlanta Hawks again on Friday evening, but they will be shorthanded as health becomes a key priority with the postseason up ahead.
Here’s Cleveland’s injury report, as of Friday morning, for its matchup against the Hawks.
Jarrett Allen - OUT
Jarrett Allen will be out against the Hawks as part of his right knee tendinopathy management.
Allen missed almost a full month with the knee injury, and while there have been moments he’s looked like that elite version of himself post All-Star Break, there have also been times where it appears the knee injury is still affecting his play on the floor.
Since JA returned to the lineup on March 27, he’s averaging 16.2 points and 8.8 rebounds while shooting 66 percent from the floor.
The Cavaliers are a better team with Allen on the floor, so they’ll need him healthy for the playoffs. Getting as much rest before the postseason starts will be essential for him and the team.

Donovan Mitchell will miss Cleveland’s second game against the Hawks this week as he manages a right ankle injury. Mitchell clearly rolled his ankle against the Indiana Pacers last Sunday, but has been playing through it.
Even though it hasn’t looked like Mitchell has skipped a beat following the ankle injury, it’s still wise for the Cavaliers to give an extra day of rest if it’s something that continues to linger.
Sam Merrill - OUT
Sam Merrill will be out of Cleveland’s lineup on Friday with a left hamstring injury. This will be the third game he has missed with an injury out of the Cavaliers' last six contests, including Friday.
Merrill has been in and out of the Cavaliers' lineup this season, especially over the last couple of weeks, due to a variety of injuries.
Thomas Bryant - OUT
Thomas Bryant will miss his third straight game with a left calf strain.
Bryant has been an important reserve for the Cavaliers this season, considering their thin frontcourt depth. The veteran center played some of his best basketball of the season when Allen was out of the lineup.
Hopefully, this isn’t a long-term injury, because the Cavaliers will need his energy and physicality in the playoffs.
Jaylon Tyson - QUESTIONABLE
The most encouraging part of Cleveland’s injury report is that, as of Friday morning, Jaylon Tyson was listed as questionable with his lingering toe injury.
Tyson was Cleveland’s breakout player of the year, but he will miss his 11th straight game with the toe injury. The forward could have a key role in a postseason series, so getting him back on the floor before the playoffs start could do a lot for his confidence.
Hopefully, Friday will finally be the game where Tyson gets back on the court.
