Will Evan Mobley Build on Promising Week With Cleveland Cavaliers? cover image

Evan Mobley's explosive offensive surge, highlighted by dominant scoring and smart playmaking, fuels the Cavaliers' winning streak. Can this momentum continue?

Evan Mobley's strong week of play is a prime example of why the Cleveland Cavaliers took him with the third overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that the Cleveland Cavaliers' three-game winning streak and better play as of late have coincided with Evan Mobley's best stretch of the season. It's been a joy for everybody in the wine and gold locker room to watch the 24-year-old forward blossom in real time.

In three games across four days, Mobley racked up 56 points, 34 rebounds, 10 assists, eight blocks, and a steal. Notably, he took 51 shots in total and only turned the ball over four times in just under 35 minutes per game.

Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson is seeing his attack getting better. He brought up recently the straight-line drives that Mobley has used to get to the rim rather than going from side to side. There's also been an emphasis on getting him the ball more consistently and not just in pockets of games.

In the latest episode of Courtside with Cavs, Spencer German and I broke down Mobley's night against the Kings on Friday and more:

"Even when the outside wasn't working, he just kept attacking; he didn't get discouraged. He kept going for those advantages. This sport is an advantage creation sport, so if you're able to find that and you're able to exploit that defensive side of the ball, that's exactly what he did.

"I cannot tell you how many times he went left, kept going left, and finished right. Keep going left, then draw a foul. Keep going left, then, 'Okay, I draw two or three defenders toward me, here's a kick-out to the corner for one of my teammates from three.' Same thing if you had a cutter coming. Evan just had so many good reads, and that is a big part of why he looked so good and so dominant [Friday]."

The Cavs will finish their home-and-home series with the Orlando Magic at Rocket Arena on Monday night, then host LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday. After two games downtown, Cleveland has a five-game road trip out west on the docket.
