What moves will the Cleveland Cavaliers make during the 2026 NBA Draft?
The NBA Draft is a few hours away, and with that, the trades and transactions are starting to pick up across the league.
As the Cleveland Cavaliers prepare for the first round, here are three predictions and projections the front office could make on draft night.
Cavaliers Trade Out of No. 29 Pick
It’s hard to imagine the Cavaliers letting draft night go by without Cleveland making a selection. That said, it does make a lot of sense for the front office to trade the No. 29 overall pick in the first round for
The primary rationale for the Cavs trading back comes down to finances. The salary of a first-round and second-round pick could be the difference of one or two million dollars.
That may not seem like a lot, but for Cleveland, which is still a second-apron team, that could be a key difference maker down the line.
Plus, with the front office picking up the $2.4 million option on Craig Porter Jr. on Monday, the Cavaliers have only added salary so far this offseason, not shed it themselves, even deeper into the
Of course, a lot of this could depend on how draft night goes and who is still available on the board when No. 29 is on the clock.

Whether the Cavaliers keep their No. 29 pick or trade back into the second round, the growing sentiment is that Cleveland will select a player who could contribute in an NBA rotation as soon as next season.
Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor suggested Zuby Ejiofor, Isaiah Evans, Sergio De Larrea, Henri Veesaar, and Tarris Reed Jr. all be potential targets for the Cavaliers.
Looking at Ejiofor, Veesaar, and Reed, they’re all considered frontcourt players. Cleveland needs to address its center depth behind Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen this summer anyway, and they could do just that by drafting any three of these players.
Cavaliers Stay Relatively Quiet on Draft Night
Draft night isn’t just a big night in the NBA because of the prospects who get selected; it’s also when the league sees some of the biggest trades of the summer go down.
As for the Cavaliers, they’re more likely than not in store for a relatively quiet night, outside of a potential trade back to the second round.
Even if Cleveland’s front office wanted to make a big move, the team's second-apron status still limits what moves it can make.
