Should the Cleveland Cavaliers Pursue Chris Paul? cover image

Should the Cleveland Cavaliers pursue 12-time All-Star Chris Paul?

Chris Paul’s shocking departure from the Los Angeles Clippers has been one of the most stunning storylines of the NBA season so far. The team sent the veteran point guard home, making it clear he wasn’t in their plans for the remainder of the season.

If Paul ends up with another team at some point this season, the Cleveland Cavaliers should check in and see if the veteran would be interested in joining the Wine and Gold; there are a few reasons why the team could use his services.

Paul Gives Cavaliers More Point Guard Depth

At the very least, signing Paul would give the Cavaliers more depth at the point guard position, and that’s something Cleveland needs as long as Darius Garland is still playing through his toe injury.

Behind DG on the depth chart are Lonzo Ball, Craig Porter Jr., and rookie Tyrese Proctor. Yes, Donovan Mitchell has taken reps as the primary ball-handler when Garland has been out, but Spida is much better playing off the ball.

Adding Paul would give Cleveland another point guard and game manager to have on the floor when Garland is on the sidelines.

Chris Paul Could Elevate Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen’s Game

If there’s one thing Paul can do even in the twilight of his career, it’s get his big men involved.

That was one of his main calling cards with the Lob Angeles Clippers, and he did a decent job of getting Victor Wembenayma the ball during his single season with the San Antonio Spurs last year.

Considering the Cavaliers are already running a non-traditional two-big man front court, adding Paul could be a great way to ignite and elevate Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen’s game.

Paul Provides More Veteran Leadership

With the current state of the Cavaliers, they could use another leader in the locker room to help put the season in perspective and

Paul’s impact during his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns went well beyond what he did on the floor. He was a role model for those groups, and Cleveland could use another one of those right now.
