From LeBron’s emotional return to Cleveland, to a late-season test out west, circle these pivotal matchups defining the Cavaliers' quest for redemption during the 2026-27 campaign.

The Cleveland Cavaliers 2026-27 schedule is officially here and after a mostly quiet offseason to this point the expectations are a bit mixed for the looming wine and gold campaign.

Still, with a notable power shift in the Eastern Conference, there are an assortment of matchups that are bound to generate plenty of drama and chatter. Some are more obvious than others, but these are the top 5 must-see games on Cleveland's schedule this season.

1) Nov. 6 vs. Philadelphia 76ers 7:30 pm

It's not Cleveland's first matchup with LeBron James and his new team. That'll come on Oct. 22 when the wine and gold open the season in Philly. But for obvious reasons, LeBron's first trip. back to Northeast Ohio after spurning the Cavs will come with plenty of emotions for the home crowd.

It's unlikely to rival the Akron native's first trip back to town as a member of the Miami Heat – that experience was borderline violent. But let's just say the cordial cheers he received when he returned to Rocket Arena with the LA Lakers for seven years are likely to be drowned out by a lot more boos from now on.

2) Nov. 11 @ New York Knicks 7 pm

This isn't the first rematch with the defending champs, who eliminated the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals back in May. That'll be at home on the second night of a back-to-back following that Nov. 6 meeting with Philadelphia. Given those circumstances, and the fact that it's early in the season, Cleveland may play the load management game.

This matchup represents the first matchup between the two in New York, as part of a pretty grueling stretch of the schedule that also features matchups with Oklahoma City Thunder, the Charlotte Hornets and the new-look Miami Heat. It's also bound to have plenty of juice on ESPN.

3) Jan. 18 vs. Detroit Pistons 12 pm

This is the first game of the NBA's Martin Luther King Day slate and a fun one, given the renewed rivalry between these two cities and teams. It's good to see the NBA leaning into that too with the two foes squaring off as part of the league's "rivalry week" as well.

This will be Cleveland's third matchup with the Pistons of the season and a notable one in the second half of the season that will be a nice litmus test for where both teams are at in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

4) Nov. 20 vs. Indiana Pacers 7:30 pm

People are sleeping on the Indiana Pacers because they were so bad last year, but Tyrese Haliburton returns and teams up with trade deadline addition Ivica Zubac to form an intriguing contender in the East.

This will be the first time the Cavs face this new iteration of the Pacers. It'll be the first time they square off with Haliburton since he eliminated them from the playoffs in 2025. It's also an. NBA Cup game, if you're into that sort of thing.

5) April 7 @ San Antonio Spurs 7:30 pm

The end of the season can be a little flukey, especially with playoff seeding often settled for many teams. However, this interconference showdown with Wemby could serve as a final, late-season barometer to gauge just how ready the Cavaliers are for a potential postseason run.
