Dean Wade's free agency is more complicated than whether the Cleveland Cavaliers want to bring the forward back.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have some tough decisions ahead of them during the offseason, and that starts with deciding the fates of some of the team’s free agents.

One of Cleveland’s players who’s set to hit the open market is Dean Wade. The wing’s impending free agency is a complicated one, and the Cavaliers have a series of decisions to make when it comes to Wade’s future.

The first question the Cavaliers have to answer is, do they want to bring back Wade and have a spot for him on the roster moving forward?

It appears this question has already been answered, and the conclusion is yes.

A recent report from The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer revealed that the Cavaliers are prioritizing bringing back Wade, and it’s easy to understand why the team values him so much.

Wade's ability to guard just about any position on the floor, whether on the perimeter or in the post, makes him a perfect fit to share the floor with Donovan Mitchell and James Harden. Plus, Wade gives the Cavaliers more floor spacing, too, being a career 36 percent three-point shooter.

There’s also an argument to be made that Wade was one of Cleveland’s most important players during the playoffs. His +/- was actually the best on the roster during the postseason.

Wade is the perfect example of a player who silently contributes to winning basketball.

If Cleveland decides it wants to bring back Wade, the next decision it needs to make is to come up with a contract it feels comfortable offering the 29-year-old.

Another report from Cleveland.com's Chris Fedor shared that Wade and his camp are seeking a deal worth close to the mid-level exception. That number is projected to be around $15 million for the 2026-27 season.

Yes, Wade has been a solid role player for the Cavaliers, but is his impact and skill set worth $15 million a year?

On top of that, Cleveland’s budget will continue to be a hot-button topic this offseason. As it stands, the Cavaliers are still a second-apron team, limiting the types of moves they can make to truly make changes to the team.

There’s a path for the Cavaliers to get out of the second-apron, but it would likely involve moving on from Wade and letting him sign with another team, especially if he’s seeing that much on the open market.

Whether or not the Cavs do bring back Wade will affect the rest of their offseason plans, so it wouldn’t be shocking if Cleveland makes a decision on the forward shortly after free agency officially begins.
