The Boston Celtics dropped a tough 119-115 contest on Saturday afternoon in Minnesota against the Minnesota Timberwolves, falling to 10-9 on the season.
As we prepare to hit the quarter pole, the Celtics are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference as of this posting.
Here's what you need to know:
Continuing to fill the No. 1 shoes vacated by Jayson Tatum's injury, Jaylen Brown put together an outstanding game, scoring 41 points on 17-of-32 shooting. He also had six rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Unfortunately he also had four turnovers.
Neemias Queta had a career day in his own right, scoring 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting. He also had a whopping 18 rebounds to go along with two blocks.
As noted by Justin Turpin of WEEI in Boston, Queta set career-highs in points, free-throws attempted (eight), offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds and total rebounds.
--Four Celtics scored in double-figures, including Derrick White (16) and Sam Hauser (14).
--Six different T'Wolves scored in double-figures, including Anthony Edwards, who had 39 on 12-of-24 shooting.
--Both teams shot a high-volume of three-pointers, with Boston going 16-of-46 (35 percent) and Minnesota going 21-of-48 (44 percent).
--The Celtics only shot 15 free-throws, going 9-of-15.
--The Celtics out-rebounded the Wolves by six, 43-37.
--Boston had 50 points in the paint vs. 34 for the Wolves.
--The Celtics were outscored by 12 in the third quarter, 35-23.
A number of supplemental stats favored Boston, so the key difference was the three-point shooting, where Minnesota hit five more. Minnesota also gained seven more points at the free-throw line and committed five less fouls.
The Celtics need to get the secondary scorers going at the same time. While White and Houser combined to score 30 points in total, White continued his tough shooting season, going just 6-of-16 from the floor and 2-of-8 from three-point range.
Jordan Walsh also had no points in 20 minutes of action. He started, also only pulling down two rebounds. If you're going to be on the floor that much, you have to be impactful and he wasn't.
This loss snaps Boston's modest two-game winning streak and they'll be back at it again on Sunday night at 6 p.m. ET against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Always a tough place to play, the Cavs are 12-8 on the season. They are 8-3 at home.
