The Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers have all struck big deals this offseason.
Another rival of the Boston Celtics has made a big move with about a month to go until NBA training camp.
As noted by Shams Charania of ESPN, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers have struck a three-team trade that will send Peyton Watson to the Cavaliers, where he will sign a four-year, $88 million deal. Max Strus is going to Clippers, while multiple draft picks are going to the Nuggets.
Ironically enough, Watson was thought to be a possible fit for the Celtics earlier this offseason, but the Celtics elected to trade Jaylen Brown to the 76ers, and nothing ever materialized on the Watson front.
The Celtics finished 56-26 last season and earned the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, but things have undoubtedly gotten harder for them this season. They facilitated part of that by trading Brown to Philly to pair with Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid, but then then the 76ers went out and signed LeBron James as well.
Of course, the world champion New York Knicks also reside in the Eastern Conference, as do the Cavaliers, who also brought back James Harden to pair with Evan Mobley and Donovan Mitchell - and now Watson.
The Toronto Raptors also traded for Kawhi Leonard this offseason, and presuming that deal goes through, they have gotten better as well. And oh yeah, the Detroit Pistons were the No. 1 seed a year ago.

Still just 23 years old, Watson was the No. 30 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft out of UCLA. He was taken by the Oklahoma City Thunder, but has spent all four years of his career with Denver.
So far, he's played in 225 NBA games, averaging 8.7 ppg, but he scored 14.6 last season for the Nuggets, who are one of the best teams in the league as well. He was part of the Nuggets' title team in 2022-23, appearing in five playoff games.
About the Celtics' additions
Of course, Boston's rivals aren't the only ones making moves: The Celtics have also made moves, bringing in Paul George as part of the Brown trade, as well as veteran point guard Mike Conley and champion big man Mitchell Robinson.
Brad Stevens recently had high praise for George and the impact he has on winning, but we took a look at one of the biggest questions about his addition: How will he and Jayson Tatum play together, or will they not be able to do so?
