As the NBA Draft nears, the rumor mill is ramping up for the Boston Celtics.

Every day, every hour, there's seemingly a new update on the team's pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks.

On Saturday night, longtime basketball reporter Gary Woelfel reported that the C's have "intensified" their efforts to land the two-time MVP. He adds that the team is more open to moving Jaylen Brown, though Brown would likely be moved to a third team in the deal.

We've heard a bevy of teams that are potential interested in acquiring him, as he finished sixth in the MVP voting this season.

As it always has, the idea of acquiring Antetokounmpo comes down to how much risk the Celtics are willing to endure.

Are they willing to break up the (probable) Hall of Fame duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, the same duo that won them a title in 2023-24? Are they willing to upset fans that are disappointed in that decision? Are they willing to risk paying Antetokounmpo top dollar into mid-30s, when he hasn't been consistently healthy for more than a half decade? And are they willing to change up their style of play to accommodate Antetokounmpo? How would that impact the other guys on the roster who have acclimated to a three-point happy offense?

We should start to get some answers to all of those questions in the coming days. The Bucks have said they want to have the Antetokounmpo situation resolved by the time the draft comes around on June 23. While that's an arbitrary date, it makes sense: If the Bucks acquire picks as part of a deal, they'd like to be able to access them in this year's draft, wouldn't they?

Furthermore, the draft happens about a week before free agency. If the Antetokounmpo situation is resolved by then, they'll have a better idea of how to handle their own free agency.

A 13-year veteran of the Bucks, he's a 10-time All-Star, a nine-time All-NBA selection, a five-time All-Defensive team member and a two-time MVP. He won the NBA championship with Milwaukee in 2021 and has been named NBA Finals MVP and NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

A dominant presence in the paint, he averaged 27.6 ppg last season, but he played only 36 games. And that's the rub with Antetokounmpo: To the point above, he isn't always available. He's played more than 70 games just once in the last seven years.
