Tyler Lashbrook, who's been with the Celtics since 2023, could head across the country to join the Trail Blazers

A lot attention has been paid to what player personnel moves the Boston Celtics will make this offseason to return to contendership status in the 2026-27 season.

While the Celtics front office is determining what moves to make pertaining to the roster, the team might suffer a loss pertaining to the coaching staff.

The Portland Trail Blazers are in the midst of finding a permanent head coach. Tiago Splitter filled in this past season as interim head coach while previous head coach Chauncey Billups was placed on indefinite leave by the organization after being indicted in a federal investigation pertaining to an alleged poker ring.

Splitter is a candidate to take over the role on a permanent basis but a Boston assistant is currently up for the job.

According to a report on the "Stein Line" Substack from NBA insider Marc Stein, Boston assistant coach Tyler Lashbrook has an in-person interview with Portland for the head coach position.

Lashbrook has been a part of NBA coaching staffs since since 2018. He's been with the Celtics since 2003.

Lashbrook was with the Philadelphia 76ers in the player development department from 2018-23 under two head coaches: Brett Brown and Doc Rivers.

After the '22-23 season, Lashbrook joined Boston. He worked in player development again from '23-24, was named the head coach of the Celtics' G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, for the '24-25 season and has been the team's assistant coach for the last two years.

While Lashbrook was in the player development departments for Boston, he focused on developing young players and leading the team's prep in late game situations. In that season, Boston won the NBA championship and the late-game prep played a role several times. In the Eastern Conference Finals, three of the team's four wins were decided by five points or less.

While Lashbrook coached the G-League Maine team, the team finished the season 21-13 and guard J.D. Davison was named the G-League Most Valuable Player.

There's still questions over how the Celtics roster will look this upcoming season. There's been speculation the team could opt to "run it back" with a team that spent most of the season sans Jayson Tatum and was still considered a championship contender.

However, due to the team giving up a 3-1 series lead and being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the 76ers, there's also been an thought that Boston could look to shuffle the roster to inject more life and energy.

Filling out another role on the coaching staff would add more to Boston's plate.
