Drew Carter will get some opportunities to call games nationally.
Congratulations are in order for Boston Celtics television voice Drew Carter, who has been tabbed to call some national television games on ESPN this season.
ESPN put out the release on Thursday, saying that Carter will join a roster that includes the likes of Mike Breen and Dave Pasch, as well as Mike Monaco, who also calls some Boston Red Sox baseball on NESN.
Also on the list for ESPN this year are Jeremy Linn and Jason Kidd, who has previously served as a head coach for the Dallas Mavericks.
There is no word as to how many games Carter will get, or when they'll be, but it's an incredible opportunity for him to grow his career beyond the Celtics space.
Carter has been with the Celtics since 2023-24. He took over for longtime legendary broadcaster Mike Gorman.
He is a 2019 graduate of Syracuse University and he also worked previously for ESPN and CBS.
The Celtics will finish out the preseason on Friday night when they take on the Philadelphia 76ers in Philadelphia. That will be the final test before the regular season opens up on Tuesday night in Detroit against the Pistons. Detroit finished last season as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference while the Celtics earned the No. 2 seed.
Also in the news for Boston
--The hype train has officially left the station for Celtics' big man Mitchell Robinson, who signed a three-year deal in the offseason. After eight years with the New York Knicks, Robinson is going to get a chance to be a focal point for Boston, though it remains to be seen exactly how he'll fit into the offensive mix.
--Speaking of being a focal point: The Celtics re-signed point guard Payton Pritchard to a two-year contract extension earlier this week. That's not bad for a player who once wanted to be traded out of Boston. Pritchard helped the Celtics get to the NBA Finals in 2021-22 and helped them win the title in 2023-24. He's continued to get better and has developed into one of the best sixth men in the entire league.
--The Celtics will change up the plan for the preseason finale. Veteran assistant coach and former C's point guard Sam Cassell will serve as the head coach.
He's been an assistant coach in the league since 2009 with the Washington Wizards, Clippers, 76ers and Celtics.
