Boston defeated Chicago on Friday night in Game 1 of the NBA Cup.

The Boston Celtics defeated the Chicago Bulls on Friday night in Game 1 of the NBA Cup at TD Garden.

The Celtics are 4-1 in the regular season and now 1-0 in the NBA Cup, where they will have three more Group Play games over the course of the next month.

This is the fourth version of the NBA Cup, and the New York Knicks are the defending champion.

The Celtics dominated the Bulls 125-111 on Friday night, though they led by 29 points at the half and appeared headed for an even more lopsided victory.

As noted by Taylor Snow of the Celtics, this game actually made some unique history not seen in nearly 20 years.

This is the first time since February of 2008 that both the Celtics and their opponent attempted at least 40 free-throws in a game. That happened against the Golden State Warriors.

As for this game

The Bulls shot 40 free-throws exactly, going 26-of-40 (65 percent). The Celtics also shot 40 exactly, going 31-for-40 (78 percent).

It goes without saying...

Boston would love to continue to make a living at the foul line. With Jayson Tatum, Paul George, Payton Pritchard, Derrick White and Sam Hauser on the roster, they are full of solid shooters. Getting consistent free-throw attempts can only be a good thing for Boston.

However, you also don't want to give other teams opportunities as well. The Celtics had a chance to blow the Bulls completely out, but the foul line allowed them to stay in the game more than they should have. Chicago is 1-4 on the season, but against good teams, you won't be able to get away with that kind of performance.

Up next for the C's...

The Celtics won't take the floor again until Sunday, when they'll take on the Orlando Magic in Orlando. The Magic are 2-3 in the early going and are playing without top player Paolo Banchero, who is out with an ankle injury. Jalen Suggs is also out, however, Orlando did find a way to beat the Toronto Raptors on Friday.

Franz Wagner leads the way with 19.5 points while Wendell Carter averages nine rebounds a game.

Orlando is 0-2 at home, which the Celtics will try to make 0-3.

As for the NBA Cup, the Celtics won't play another Group Play game until Nov. 6 when they take on the Charlotte Hornets in Charlotte.
