Joe Mazzulla is making sure to invest in his players this summer, as he did with Baylor Scheireman on Friday.
Even though the Boston Celtics are no longer playing, that doesn't mean that the Celtics players and coaches are no longer working.
Video circulated online on Friday of Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla working out at Creighton University with role player Baylor Scheierman. Celtics Insider Noa Dalzell added that this is something Mazzulla does often - spend time with players in the offseason.
It's certainly expected that players and coaches work in the offseason, but to see Mazzulla travel to Nebraska to connect with a role player on his roster is next level. Mazzulla is known as a good coach, but it's also a sign of his investment in people and their development.
When people speak highly of Mazzulla, they can point to this as an example of what he's willing to do to help people reach their peak as a player.
About Scheierman
A first-round pick (No. 30) of the Celtics in 2024 out of Creighton, he just finished up his second season in the NBA. He appeared in 77 games this season, shooting 39.9 percent from three-point range and 90.3 percent from the foul line. He averaged 5.5 ppg and 3.5 rebounds, serving as a valuable player, especially in the absence of Jayson Tatum, who missed 66 regular season games with injury.

Well, if the Celtics bring back most of the same team in 2026-27, he figures to play a reserve role again, but his development could net him more than the 18.6 minutes per game he saw in 2025-26.
If the Celtics make significant moves in the offseason, his role could change drastically. For instance, if the C's have to trade role players to fill out a deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo, then there could be more opportunity for him to play. Of course, he could end up part of a deal as well. It all just remains to be seen.

With just 17 days until the start of the NBA Draft, it's time for the Celtics to start zeroing in what the plans are for the No. 27 and No. 40 picks in the event.
The Celtics could trade the picks as part of a deal for a more established player, or they could keep the picks and take players who will help supplement their chances to get back to the Eastern Conference Finals for the third time in six years.
We've heard the Celtics connected to multiple names throughout the pre-draft process, including Zuby Ejiofor of St. John's and Alex Karaban of UConn but the Field of 68 introduced a new name on Friday: Henri Veesaar.
The well-respected college outlet had the Celtics taking Veesaar at the No. 27 pick. We covered that possibility here.
