The C's will take on the Orlando Magic on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

After defeating the Chicago Bulls on Friday night, the Boston Celtics are back in action again on Sunday afternoon (3:30 p.m. ET)) against the Orlando Magic in Orlando.

The Magic are a good team that made the playoffs a year ago, but they are playing without Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs, both out with injuries.

The Magic are 2-3 in the early going while the Celtics are 4-1.

Part of the reason for the Celtics early success has been the defensive effort across the board, but Jayson Tatum has also put together a historic start offensively.

According to @DickLipe and @SteveBHoop, Tatum is just the third player in team history to have 130+ points, 30+ assists and 30+ rebounds in the first five games of a season. He joined Larry Bird and John Havlicek in that company.

Both players are Hall of Famers, so that's about as good as it gets.

Tatum, 28, is averaging 27.6 ppg and 6.4 rebounds per night while also dishing out 7.8 assists. The only real disappointment in his game so far is his 3-point shooting, where he's hitting only 25 percent through five games.

Lifetime, Tatum is already a six-time All-Star and a five-time All-NBA selection in just nine seasons. He helped the Celtics win the NBA title in 2023-24.

Measuring up to pressure

At the end of the day, team success is all that matters. However, we'd be ignorant to say that individual performances don't factor into perception also. Last season, with Tatum largely sidelined because of injury, Jaylen Brown averaged 28.4 ppg and finished sixth in the MVP voting. The Celtics elected to choose Tatum this offseason, trading Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.

As a result, Tatum is under a microscope to see if he can measure up to Brown's season from a year ago.

So far, he's doing that, but there's still 77 games to go.

--The win over the Bulls was part of the NBA Cup for the Celtics and served as the first game for the team in Group Play. Boston will play three other Group Play games in the month of November against the Charlotte Hornets, Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards. The team with the best record in Group Play advances to the elimination round.

--Though the Celtics are 4-1, we do have one big question about the team's issues on the glass.
