We know when the Celtics will suit up in Las Vegas, and we know who will be guiding them on the sideline.
With the NBA Draft now behind them, the Boston Celtics are onto the next phases of their offseason.
First, they need to figure out if they are actually trading superstar guard/forward Jaylen Brown, and then they can worry about NBA Free Agency, which begins on June 30.
After that? It's time for the Vegas Summer League, where the Celtics learned and revealed some details on Friday.
According to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, assistant coach Amile Jefferson will coach the Celtics rookies and youngsters in the summer league, which is a key developmental time for the organization's young and new players.
Secondly, the Celtics revealed the summer league schedule, which will begin on July 10. Boston will play the Toronto Raptors on that date before facing the Charlotte Hornets on July 12, the Atlanta Hawks on July 13 and the Sacramento Kings on July 15. Games will split broadcast networks between ESPN, ESPN2 and Amazon Prime.
About Amile Jefferson
A five-year standout at Duke, Jefferson started 103 of a possible 150 games in his college career, which spanned from 2012-17. Jefferson helped the Blue Jays win the national championship in 2015 and was also a two-time member of the ACC's All-Tournament team. He averaged 7.2 ppg for his career to go along with 6.3 rebounds. He averaged 10.9 ppg in his final season.
The 6-foot-9 Philadelphia native played 30 games in the NBA with the Orlando Magic, getting his last minutes in 2019-20. He scored 1.4 ppg and then transitioned into coaching. He coached at Duke before coming to the Celtics in 2023.
His final year as a player at Duke was Jayson Tatum's only season with the Blue Devils, so the two have a relationship that spans a decade at this point.
Other Celtics summer league news
As noted by Keith Smith of Spotrac, second-year player Hugo Gonzalez play for Spain in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers on July 2 and 5. It's unknown if he'll appear in summer league for Jefferson's team.
Gonzalez played in 74 games this past season, averaging four points a game and serving as a valuable piece when Tatum was out with injury. Tatum only played 16 games as a result of recovery from his torn Achilles.
On the draft front
The Celtics selected Chris Cenac Jr. of Houston with their first pick in the draft and Dillon Mitchell of St. John's with their second.
