Bob Cousy is still in the news, and still impacting the state of Massachusetts.
Even at 97 years old and decades removed from his playing career, former Boston Celtics star Bob Cousy is still impacting people all over New England.
As noted by the Celtics and the College of Holy Cross, the I-290 bridge over Southbridge Street in Worcester, Mass., will be named "Bob Cousy Pass" moving forward.
Holy Cross is located in Worcester. The honor comes with a commemorative stone that shares all of Cousy's accomplishments at both Holy Cross and with the Celtics.
About Cousy in college
Cousy spent four years playing at Holy Cross, helping them win the NCAA title in 1946-1947. He averaged 7.6 ppg as a freshman and then jumped up to 16.2 as a sophomore, 17.8 as a junior and 19.4 as a senior. Additionally, he went to two more NCAA Tournaments and was named a first-team All-America in 1949-50, his senior campaign.
Once he was done in college, he was the No. 4 pick in the 1950 NBA Draft of the Celtics. He was inducted into the Holy Cross Hall of Fame in 1956.
About Cousy in the pros
With the Celtics, Cousy became a legend. One of the best players in team history, he spent 13 years with Boston, amassing 13 All-Star Game appearances, 12 All-NBA selections and two All-Star Game MVPs.
He won six NBA titles with the C's and was also MVP in 1956-57. A member of the NBA 75th Anniversary team, he averaged 18.4 ppg and 7.5 assists. He led the league in total assists in eight different seasons.
He was inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 1971, nearly immediately after he quit playing for good. Ironically, Cousy retired after the 1962-63 season, took six seasons off and then came back for seven games with the Cincinnati Royals. He was also the head coach of the Royals.
As a coach
Cousy spent five seasons as head coach of the Royals and Kansas City-Omaha Kings, who are now the Sacramento Kings. He went 141-207 in that tenure, winning a season-best 36 games twice.

The Celtics' Summer League session will come to an end on Saturday when they take on the Orlando Magic at 4:30 p.m. ET.
The Celtics have gone 3-1 in Las Vegas, but were not able to advance to the semifinals of the league.
Once the game concludes, we won't see the Celtics on the floor again until training camp in September.
