The Boston Celtics (37-19) have put themselves in position to keep their Western Conference trip rolling Tuesday night, and they’ll do so against a Phoenix Suns (33-25) squad that’s dealing with a wave of injuries at the worst possible time.
Boston enters the matchup playing some of its best basketball of the season, riding the momentum of a dominant stretch that has reinforced its status as one of the hottest teams in the league.
The Celtics have been clicking on both ends of the floor, stringing together wins with a balanced attack, improved defensive intensity, and the kind of depth that allows them to weather different game scripts. That formula has fueled a strong road trip so far and has them eyeing another opportunity to stack a win before a tougher test looming later in the week.
Meanwhile, Phoenix will be severely shorthanded.
The Suns will be without star guard Devin Booker (right hip strain) and starting wing Dillon Brooks (left hand fracture), removing two major pieces from their rotation. Reserve guard Jordan Goodwin is also out with a calf strain, while Grayson Allen is questionable with a knee issue. Haywood Highsmith and Cole Anthony won’t be available either, leaving Phoenix scrambling to piece together lineups and consistent scoring options.
Without Booker especially, the Suns have struggled to generate offense, dropping five of their last seven games and looking out of rhythm for long stretches.

For Boston, the only real question mark is the status of Jaylen Brown, who is listed as questionable with a right knee contusion. Brown has been a driving force behind the Celtics’ recent surge, providing scoring punch, physical defense, and steady leadership while appearing in 51 of the team’s first 56 games. With a back-to-back in Denver on deck Wednesday, the Celtics could opt to be cautious if there’s any doubt about his availability, especially given their depth and current rhythm.
Regardless of whether Brown suits up, Boston’s recent play has been defined by crisp ball movement, strong perimeter shooting, and a defense that has consistently dictated tempo. That identity has allowed the Celtics to control games even when shots aren’t falling at a high clip, and it gives them a clear edge against a depleted Suns roster.
All told, this matchup sets up as another chance for Boston to keep building momentum, continue its strong play out West, and take advantage of an opponent still searching for answers amid mounting injuries.
