Brown will be in the building on Saturday night, but he won't get the full 'Welcome Back' treatment.

Earlier on Saturday, we laid out our "four things to watch" for the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers preseason game on Saturday night (8 p.m. ET) at TD Garden.

Among them was the Jaylen Brown factor.

While Brown isn't expected to play for Philadelphia, he will be in the building for the first time since being traded to the 76ers this summer. With that in mind, we were curious to watch the whole spectacle unfold.

Would the Celtics show him a tribute video? Would Brown go out of his way to acknowledge the crowd? How many signs would be in the crowd for him? Would the crowd chant his name?

Well, we learned a little bit of the plans in advance of the game, with Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe reporting that the Celtics will show him a tribute video in his regular season return to Boston (Jan. 21), and not in this preseason game.

Frankly, that seems like the right move. Brown's return deserves the full attention of the basketball world, and he will get that in the regular season. It will still be interesting to see the reception he gets from the crowd, however.

About Brown

Drafted with the No. 3 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft out of Cal, Brown has spent all 10 years of his career with the Celtics, until now. A five-time All-Star, he finished sixth in the MVP voting last season, scoring 28.7 ppg. He also earned a spot on the NBA's All-Second Team for his efforts. He helped the Celtics go 56-26 in the regular season and earn the No. 2 seed in the NBA Playoffs, where Boston lost to the 76ers in seven games in the first round.

He helped the Celtics get to the NBA Finals in both 2021-22 and 2023-24. The Celtics won the latter title and Brown was named MVP of the NBA Finals.

He paired with Tatum to make one of the best duos in basketball for a half-decade or so, and this will be the first time in nine years we have seen them not in the organization together.

Of note

The Celtics acquired Paul George and multiple future draft picks in the trade for him. George is expected to play on Saturday, which will be his first action in a Celtics uniform. He did not play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Boston won by 11.
