The game will be played against the backdrop of Kevin Garnett's number retirement.
As noted by Timberwolves Muse on social media, the "get-in" price for the Boston Celtics and Timberwolves game on Feb. 28 starts at $169.
Why so expensive, and likely to rise? Because the game will be played against the backdrop of Kevin Garnett's No. 21 retirement ceremony, which is happening postgame.
While the Timberwolves are a good team with playoff hopes and expectations, no game on the schedule will resonate with fans like this one. Garnett, with help from Stephon Marbury, put the Timberwolves franchise on the map in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Garnett obviously played for the Celtics as well, becoming an integral part of their history in the mid-2000s.
About Garnett
Now 50 years old, Garnett took the league by storm when he entered it out of high school in 1995. The No. 5 overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft of Minnesota, he spent the first 12 years of his career with the Wolves before being traded to Boston in the offseason leading into the 2007-08 campaign.
That season, the Celtics also acquired Ray Allen, pairing the duo with Paul Pierce, and won the NBA title after going 66-16 in the regular season. In total, Garnett spent six seasons with the Celtics, playing in 396 regular season games and averaging 15.7 ppg and 8.3 rebounds. He was the league's Defensive Player of the Year winner in 2007-08 and also made five All-Star Games with the Celtics.
NBA great Kevin Garnett is honored for being selected to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team during halftime in the 2022 NBA All-Star Game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Kyle Terada-USA TODAY SportsHe, Pierce and Allen helped usher in the "Big 3" era of the NBA, which is arguably a bigger legacy than the title that the team won together.
Boston ended up trading him to Brooklyn before the 2013 season, netting a bevy of draft picks that ultimately turned into Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum both.
The Celtics, of course, won the NBA title with Brown and Tatum in 2023-24. Brown was named the MVP of the Finals and was traded this past July to the Philadelphia 76ers.
