Throughout the offseason, we've been focusing on the Boston Celtics and their pursuit of help in the front court.

That's why when the news broke on Wednesday that the C's were signing veteran point guard Mike Conley to a one-year deal, it was surprising. With Payton Pritchard and Derrick White, the Celtics have been set at the starting guard spots, but Conley will provide more depth at the position.

ESPN's Shams Charania had the information on social media, adding that Conley is only the 14th player in NBA history to reach 20 seasons in the league.

Here's what you need to know:

Now 38 years old, Conley was the No. 4 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft out of Ohio State. Over his 19-year career, he's played with the Memphis Grizzlies, Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves. A reliable and durable player, he's a one-time All-Star, and he was also a member of the 2012-13 All-Defensive team.

A career 13.6 ppg scorer, he only averaged 1.7 ppg for Minnesota this season. He also only played 18.4 minutes per game, so it's unclear exactly how big a role he'll be able to provide the Celtics moving forward. 

He's a career 38.7 percent shooter from three-point range and he's also an 82.6 percent shooter at the foul line.

It's really all about what happens with Jaylen Brown for Boston. If they are going to keep him, then the roster feels largely set with the additions of Conley and draft picks Chris Cenac Jr. and Dillon Mitchell.

If they are going to trade Brown, it seems likely that the Celtics will be focusing on interior help with the goal of getting more balanced offensively. They could also target wing help to alleviate the loss of Brown, who finished sixth in MVP voting this season.

He averaged 28.7 ppg.
