New Boston Celtics owner Bill Chisholm confirmed Thursday at a press conference, which was carried on social media, that he will not attempt to fix anything with the Celtics that is not already broken.

Chisholm is not going to mess with the success the Celtics have enjoyed in recent years, which was punctuated by an NBA title in 2024. Chisholm said he is going to let the basketball operations people do what they do best and retain the parties responsible for said success.

"Let's do whatever we can to win championships and raise banners, and raise as many as we can," Chisholm said. "I will do whatever it takes, whatever the Boston Celtics need me to do."

A lifelong Celtics fan, Chisholm leads a team that will spend at least $6.1 billion for the club and its assets. At the time the price was agreed to, it set a record for the highest sale price of any sports franchise in the United States. The sale and transfer were approved by the NBA last month.

“The Celtics have brought me joy my entire life,” he said. “I feel like I have something to add here. This was an opportunity that was a dream that came true. For me to have this chance, I would never forgive myself if I didn’t go for it.”

Chisholm said that former majority owner Wyc Grousbeck will stay on and serve as the Chief Executive Officer. Grousbeck has agreed to a five-year deal which will keep him as the alternate governor for the franchise. The governor has to own at least 15 percent of the team and Grousbeck will not retain that amount.

"I am staying in shoulder-to-shoulder with Bill," Grousbeck said. "I want a third ring. And then I want a fourth ring. I've got two, it's a nice start."

Grousbeck also said half of his former ownership group are going to making the transition with him and that president of basketball operations Brad Stevens and head coach Joe Mazzulla will both be back in their respective positions.

Chisholm said Grousbeck will be the alternate governor, but the buck stops with him, as the majority owner.

"There's a governor, and the governor has the final say, and that's me," Chisholm said. "Ultimately, I am the one responsible."
