Chandler Parsons and Cowherd talked about the idea of Jaylen Brown getting traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
If you aren't yet tired of the trade rumors surrounding the Boston Celtics and Giannis Antetokounmpo, you are going to get there soon enough.
We've already written about the idea a handful of times here at Celtics Roundtable, and now, the national talking heads are weighing in on the possibility.
For instance, Colin Cowherd and former NBA star Chandler Parsons both said they'd be OK with trading Jaylen Brown in a deal for Antetokounmpo, from both perspectives.
Let's take a little deeper dive.
Why Boston might make this move
Make no mistake: Brown and Jayson Tatum have played well together for nine years, and they won a title in 2023-24. They clearly know how to play off each other, but they do essentially play the same position.
If the Boston were to break up the tandem, they'd be able to give themselves definitive options at each level. Antetokounmpo would play in the interior and improve Boston's ability at the rim, while Tatum would handle the wing position, and Payton Pritchard would be an option at the point guard spot.
Furthermore, this move would allow the Celtics to surround Antetokounmpo with shooters. As teams collapse on him, he'd be able to find those shooters on the outside for open looks.
Why Boston might not make this move
1) Do the Celtics want to really break up Brown and Tatum after all this time? Brown is on the verge of becoming a team Hall of Famer, do they really want to end his time there in this way?
2) Antetokounmpo is a great player, but he's 32 years old. He has one year (plus a player option) left on his deal. Do the Celtics want to trade for him with one year left and risk him leaving? Do they want to sign him for a huge money deal into his mid-to-late 30s and be saddled with that money if he gets injured? Isn't that the issue that Milwaukee found itself with in acquiring Damian Lillard?
Brown is 30 years old and conceivably has two more years left in his prime than Antetokounmpo does.
3) In addition to trading Brown, who has three years left on his contract, the Celtics probably need to give up draft picks to make Milwaukee happy. Are they willing to do that?

In checking with the Spotrac trade generator, the deal works as a 1-for-1 swap. Is Brown, plus draft picks, worth it to Milwaukee? Or do they want some of the other pieces on Boston's roster like Pritchard and Sam Hauser? They may want them, but the Celtics don't have to move them, at least financially.
Timeline and resolution
The Bucks have said they want to have Antetokounmpo's situation resolved before the draft, which is in late June after the NBA Finals.
