According to a recent report from Sportico, Wyc Grousbeck is in the market to buy one of the NFL's premier franchises.
According to a recent report from Sportico, former Boston Celtics majority owner Wyc Grousbeck is preparing a bid to buy the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, who are now up for sale.
The Seahawks are worth $6.59 billion, according to the report. Grousbeck sold his controlling share of the Celtics before the 2024-25 season.
From Sportico:
Aditya Mittal, a member of one of India’s richest families and an investor in the Boston Celtics, along with former Celtics control owner Wyc Grousbeck, are preparing a bid for the NFL champion Seattle Seahawks, according to multiple people familiar with the process.
Mittal contributed about $1 billion to the 2025 Celtics takeover, his first major move into U.S. sports.
More on Grousbeck
As noted by MassLive, Grousbeck is still around the Celtics as the CEO and co-governor, but he's no longer the majority owner. That main decision maker is now Bill Chisholm. Boston was bounced in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs after a 56-26 regular season.
While with the Celtics from 2002-25, Grousbeck helped engineer two title teams, including the group that won in 2023-24. He was not afraid to take big swings in his ownership tenure, trading away the popular Marcus Smart and acquiring Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holliday to help win that title.
And he also helped spearhead moves for Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker and Gordon Hayward in the last decade alone. He's also part of the group that hired Brad Stevens as head coach, a groundbreaking move at the time for such a young college coach.

As New England fans know, the Seahawks won the Super Bowl this past season, defeating the New England Patriots 29-13. A two-time Super Bowl champion, Seattle is one of the most recognizable franchises in the NFL and they appear set up to be good for several years to come with head coach Mike MacDonald at the helm.
If Grousbeck's group does ultimately prepare - and win - the bid, then Grousbeck will reside in Seattle, at least part time.

Are head coach Joe Mazzulla and Stevens on the same page heading into this offseason? We aren't really sure.
Stevens gave an end-of-season press conference on Wednesday, and as noted by Zack Cox of the Boston Herald, he said that he felt that the Celtics had a hard time generating good looks against the 76ers in the seven-game series loss.
That's contradictory to what Mazzulla said after each loss of the series, where he repeatedly talked about the "good looks" that the team had.
We broke down more about the direction of the franchise here.
