The series will now shift to Philadelphia after a disappointing Game 2 loss.

The Boston Celtics suffered a disappointing loss in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference first round against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night at TD Garden.

The 111-97 loss evened the best-of-seven series at one game apiece as everything moves to Philadelphia for Games 3 and 4.

The Celtics, who have championship aspirations, have won the last six playoff series against Philadelphia.

Speaking on Wednesday, Celtics guard Derrick White was accountable for his subpar performance. He was just 2-of-10 from three-point range and scored only eight points.

Derrick White: “I’ve just got to play better. That’s all I’m focused on for Game 3.”

He’s shooting 4-for-17 from three so far in this series.

About White

Now 31 years old, White is a nine-year veteran of the San Antonio Spurs and Celtics. Acquired by Boston in 2021-22, he's helped the Celtics reach the NBA Finals twice, winning it in 2023-24. An excellent two-way player, White is one of the best defensive guards in the league while also providing solid offense.

He averaged a career-high 16.5 ppg this season, helping alleviate the losses of Jrue Holliday, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford and Jayson Tatum (mostly). However, he shot just 32.7 percent from three-point range, which is his lowest since 2021-22. He's a career 36.0 percent shooter from beyond the arc.

White finished sixth in the Defensive Player of the Year voting this season.

White's struggles part of a bigger problem in Game 2

While White was 2-of-10 from three-point range, he wasn't the only Celtics player who struggled. Boston, as a whole, was just 13-of-50 from three-point range (26 percent). We have said for a week that if the Celtics don't shoot well from outside, they can be beaten. And they were.

Tatum and Sam Hauser were both just 2-of-8 from beyond the arc.

What to think about Game 3

The Celtics will likely have to counter an initial onslaught from a fired-up 76ers group and a fired-up home crowd. If they can do that through the first quarter, they should be in an excellent spot to win.

Of course, they'll need to shoot better, but they also need to continue to have advantages on the glass, which they've had through the first two games, and at the foul line. Boston attempted 18 free-throws in Game 2, which was seven more than the 76ers.

Game 3 will tip-off at 7 p.m. ET on Friday night. It will air on Amazon Prime.
