After coaching the Milwaukee Bucks for the last three seasons, former Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers has a new job, talking about the NBA as a game analyst for NBC Sports and Peacock.

The announcement was made on Monday. Rivers has extensive media experience, having worked for Turner Sports in the 1990s and ESPN in the 2000s around his coaching jobs. He also worked for the NBC Sports team at the 2012 Olympics.

It's unclear at this point how many games Rivers will work, and if he'll be an on-site analyst or working in a studio somewhere. Regardless, he'll be a welcome addition to the NBC coverage, which is beginning its second year of coverage since re-gaining league rights.

Rivers, who led the Celtics to the NBA title in 2008, was inducted into the Hall of Fame earlier this summer. Former Celtics' Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, also Hall of Famers, helped introduce him at the induction.

Now 64 years old, Rivers spent 27 years as a head coach with five different teams, but he insists his coaching career is now done. He was with the Orlando Magic for five years before going to the Celtics for nine, the Los Angeles Clippers for seven, the Philadelphia 76ers for three and the Bucks for three.

He's got a laundry list of awards to his name, including winning the league's Coach of the Year in 1999-2000. He was also named one of the 15 greatest coaches in league history in 2021-22.

With the Celtics, he went 416-305 for a .577 winning percentage, helping Boston win that NBA title in 2007-08.

Rivers also spent 13 years in the NBA as a player with the Atlanta Hawks, Clippers, New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs. He played from 1983-96, earning an All-Star nod with the Hawks in 1987-88. He averaged 10.9 ppg for his career as well as 5.7 assists.

He's the father of former NBA guard Austin Rivers, who had a successful career in his own right.

Speaking of former Celtics coaches, Sunday was the Heavenly birthday of former C's coach Red Auerbach, who is the most successful coach/executive in NBA history. He won 16 titles between his time as the C's head coach and as a front office member.

Auerbach died in 2006, just shortly before Rivers was able to take the Celtics to the NBA title.
