Earlier this offseason, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown caught some flack for saying that this season was the favorite of his 10-year NBA career.
Brown made the comments shortly after the Celtics lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
"How could Brown call this the most favorite year considering the disappointing end?" "Brown won a title, but this is his favorite?" "Oh, he's only saying that because he got a chance to be the star with Jayson Tatum sidelined for 66 games. That's a selfish attitude," were just some of the refrains from media members and fans alike.
However, former Celtics star Antoine Walker defended Brown's comments while praising the organization in a recent appearance on the Zach Gelb Show, saying that Joe Mazzulla deserves credit for how this team responded to adversity and that he understands why Brown felt this way:
"For a player, individually, you feel special, you were able to carry the team and kind of hold the fort down until your running mate came back. I understood his comments... As a player, you see the body of work that you do and you're able to keep this team and this organization above water, it was even better than above water."
Brown averaged 28.7 ppg and led the Celtics to the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference at 56-26. He was named an All-Star for the fifth time, finished sixth in the MVP voting and earned a spot on the NBA's All-Second Team.
About Antoine Walker
Now 49 years old, Walker was one of the earliest Celtics stars of the late-90s and early 2000s. A 12-year veteran of the Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves, he spent parts of eight years in Boston, making three All-Star teams.
A member of the 1996-97 All-Rookie team, he also won an NBA title in 2006 with Miami.
He averaged 20.6 ppg with the Celtics and 17.5 for his career while shooting 41.4 percent from the floor and 32.5 percent from three. He also averaged 7.7 rebounds a night.

According to reports, Mitchell has also worked out with the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat.
The NBA Draft begins on June 23 and the Celtics have two picks as of now: No. 27 and No. 40. However, it's no certainty that the C's actually use their picks, as they could package them up in a big offseason trade.
