Demarcus Cousins is not a believer in Boston when it comes to the Miami Heat.

The Boston Celtics trading Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers was undoubtedly one of the biggest moves of the NBA offseason.

But there were other very big moves, including LeBron James signing with the 76ers and Giannis Antetokounmpo getting traded from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat.

Now, I've said all along that while I think the Celtics are still best suited for a fifth or sixth-place finish in the Eastern Conference, I don't believe that the Heat are destined to be better than them, even after acquiring the future Hall of Famer.

However, former NBA star Demarcus Cousins does buy the Heat, saying on Monday that he thinks they'll be better than Boston because the Celtics won't have an answer for Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo down low.

A curious claim

Look, Antetokounmpo and Adebayo will absolutely form one of the best big man combinations in the league this season, but it's still an interesting claim to make.

1) Antetokounmpo and Adebayo have questions of their own. Is Antetokounmpo going to take up the entire paint, forcing Adebayo to play solely on the outside? If that's the case, then the Celtics don't necessarily need two bigs to play defense against the tandem, they may just need a versatile wing defender.

2) Is Miami going to play two traditional bigs in the paint to alleviate those concerns? And if so, how does that manifest itself in the modern "pace and space NBA?"

3) The Celtics actually do have multiple big men in Mitchell Robinson and Neemias Queta, so they seem uniquely qualified to guard a team with two big men anyways.

Another thing to realize

The Heat traded guard Tyler Herro to the Bucks in order to get Antetokounmpo, leaving them woefully thin in the backcourt.

Even if you think the Celtics are not as good down low as the Heat are, what about up top? Boston's guard/forward combination of Payton Pritchard, Derrick White, Paul George and Jayson Tatum will be better than anything Miami can trot out.

About the Celtics opener...

The Celtics will open up the 2026-27 season on Tuesday afternoon against the Detroit Pistons in Detroit. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. ET as the NBA looks to make the opening day an all-day affair.

The Pistons finished last season as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference while the Celtics were No. 2.

This game will air on NBC and Peacock.
