After an offseason of change, it's unclear what we'll see from the Boston Celtics in 2026-27.

The team lost Jaylen Brown, who finished sixth in the NBA's MVP voting last year. Those kind of players don't just grow on trees. However, the team also gained the full version of Jayson Tatum, who is back after playing just 16 games last season because of the torn Achilles that he suffered in 2024-25.

Is it possible that Boston is better than the 56-26 team from last season? Maybe. Maybe not. But what is clear is that the Eastern Conference as a whole is better, as the Knicks won the championship, the 76ers loaded up, the Raptors made moves and the Miami Heat brought in Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Often thought of as the inferior conference, the East is now a relative gauntlet in its own right.

So, just how do the Celtics officially match up? Well, in the NBA 2K27 video game, the C's are seen as being in a four-way tie for the fifth-best roster in the conference, meaning they could finish anywhere from fifth to eighth.

And yes, we understand that video game ratings are not the end-all, be-all, and many things can actually happen in the course of a regular season to change all of this, but it's still fun to think about.
