As the Boston Celtics continue to close in on the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, Brown continues to play at an MVP level.

As the Boston Celtics continue to zero in on the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race, guard Jaylen Brown continues to play at an MVP level.

On Monday, Brown won his third Eastern Conference Player of the Week Award, leading the conference.

The Celtics are 53-25 with four regular season games to play. The C's went 3-1 last week as Brown averaged 31.0 ppg and 5.0 rebounds.

He's absolutely one of the contenders for the MVP Award, helping keep the Celtics in strong position after trading Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holliday this offseason. Boston also let Al Horford go in free agency and has played most of the year without Jayson Tatum as he worked back from Achilles surgery. Tatum is back now and the Celtics look like NBA Finals contenders.

Still just 29 years old, Brown is the former No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft (2016). A 10-year veteran, he's a five-time All-Star and an NBA champion. He's also an All-NBA selection (2022-23), the NBA Finals MVP (2023-24) and a member of the All-Rookie team (2016-17).

He and Tatum have made one of the most dynamic tandems in the league for the last half-decade or so, helping carry the franchise forward following the exits of Isaiah Thomas, Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward and Kemba Walker.

Brown is averaging a career-high 28.7 ppg and a career-high seven rebounds this season. He also made history on Sunday afternoon in a win over the Toronto Raptors, becoming the eighth Celtic ever to grab 3,000 defensive rebounds.

He wasn't the only Celtic who accomplished something: Both Derrick White and Payton Pritchard each have 200 three-pointers made this season.

Up next

The Celtics will play the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. ET. The game will air on Peacock. Charlotte is currently in the No. 8 spot in the playoff picture. The Celtics can finish no lower than third and their magic number for the No. 2 is two games. The New York Knicks will play the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, with a Hawks win pushing the magic number to one.

The Detroit Pistons have already clinched the No. 1 seed in the East, even with the injury issues of star Cade Cunningham.
