Brown had a great year in helping cover for Jayson Tatum, but he was not rewarded by the NBA voters.

Oklahoma City Thunder standout Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won his second straight NBA MVP Award on Sunday night, earning 83 out of a possible 100 first-place votes.

Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic was second while Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs was third. Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers was fourth and Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons was fifth.

Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics finished sixth. As noted by NBA Communications, he didn't get a single first-place vote and he got only one second vote. He received two third-place votes, 14 fourth-place votes and 30 fifth-place votes. He had 89 total points. Cunningham, one spot ahead of him, had 117.

Despite not finishing in the top five of the voting, it was an incredible year for Brown, as he averaged 28.7 ppg, further elevating his game in the absence of Jayson Tatum.

Tatum played only 16 games as he was recovering from a torn Achilles that was suffered during the playoffs last season.

Brown was named to the All-Star Game for a fifth time and will certainly earn a spot on an All-NBA team when those are announced.

In general, the Celtics seemed shortchanged in the NBA Awards landscape. Head coach Joe Mazzulla, who is a finalist for the Coach of the Year, was the only member of the Celtics to earn a top three finalist spot.

--On Thursday, we learned that the Boston Celtics have hired former point guard Isaiah Thomas to a role in the pro and college scouting department. We also learned that Thomas is at the NBA Combine and helping the Celtics interview potential draft picks.

The Celtics have picks No. 27 and No. 40 in the draft, which begins on June 23, though it's unclear if they'll trade or use those picks.

Regardless of what they ultimately do, the Celtics are preparing like they are going to make a pick, and they are bringing in three players for pre-draft workouts, per reports.

Those players are Zuby Ejiofor from St. John's, Andrej Stojakovic of Illinois and Kashie Natt of Sam Houston State.

--Celtics big man Luka Garza actually joined Jokic in some rare NBA history this season because of his effectiveness shooting the basketball. Garza, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star, is headed into the final year of his contract but sounds open to remaining in Boston should they want to negotiate a deal.
