Brown, now a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, scored 20 points in 31 minutes on Friday.

The Boston Celtics wrapped up a perfect preseason with a 125-120 win in overtime against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night in Philadelphia.

The C's finished the preseason at 4-0 while the 76ers were 1-3.

Boston didn't play any of its starters in the win, but did give significant minutes to key members of its bench, including Luka Garza, Ron Harper Jr., Baylor Scheierman, Hugo Gonzalez and Jordan Walsh. Philadelphia, on the other hand, played all of its regulars, including former Celtics star Jaylen Brown.

In 31 minutes, Brown had 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting. It was his first time playing against the Celtics since being traded from Boston this offseason. He didn't play last Saturday when the 76ers played in Boston, a game which the Celtics won 144-106.

After the game, Brown was asked if the experience at being at TD Garden and playing the Celtics in the preseason has helped get some of the emotions out of the way. He said no, "I was there for 10 years, it will never be out of the way."

Brown was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2016 NBA Draft out of Cal and he put together a Hall of Fame resume with the Celtics. In those 10 years, he was a five-time All-Star, a two-time All-NBA selection, and he finished sixth in the MVP voting last year. He was MVP of the NBA Finals in 2023-24 as the Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks.

Boston traded him to the 76ers this offseason for Paul George and multiple future draft picks.

With Brown in the mix, the 76ers are expected to contend for an NBA championship. They also signed LeBron James as a free agent for what will be the last stop in his decorated career.

Up next

The Celtics will begin the regular season on Tuesday afternoon in Detroit against the Pistons. The 3 p.m. start is a rare one, but it's part of the NBA's desire to have mostly all-day coverage on Opening Day.

The Pistons finished as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last year while the Celtics earned the No. 2. Both teams are expected to be good again this year, though the Eastern Conference has gotten much deeper as a result of the 76ers moves, Kawhi Leonard going to the Toronto Raptors and the Washington Wizards getting healthier.

And oh yes, the Knicks are the reigning champions.
