Jaylen Brown Joins Historic Group of Boston Celtics with Latest Honor cover image

The guard captured the Eastern Conference's Player of the Month honor for January.

On Tuesday afternoon, Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for January. On Tuesday night, Brown helped lead the Celtics to a 110-100 win over Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks.

Brown had 33 points in 37 minutes, going 15-of-29 from the floor and 2-of-5 from three-point range. He also added 11 rebounds and three assists. It was the kind of performance that will keep Brown as part of the conversation for the Most Valuable Player.

But back to the January honor first: With that, Brown became the sixth different Celtics player in history to be named as a Player of the Month, joining Larry Bird, Paul Pierce, Isaiah Thomas, Jayson Tatum and Antoine Walker.

Taylor Snow had that information on social media, adding that Bird won it seven times, Tatum has won it five times, Pierce four, and Thomas and Walker once each.

Brown averaged 29.2 ppg for the month as the Celtics went 10-6.

After the win on Tuesday, the C's are 32-18 and in a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference with the New York Knicks. Both teams are 5.5 games behind the Detroit Pistons.

Brown's ascent has helped fuel the Celtics success as one of the most surprising teams in basketball this season. After losing Tatum to a torn Achilles in the playoffs last season, the Celtics traded Jrue Holliday and Kristaps Porzingis in the offseason.

They weren't supposed to be this good, but they are, in large part because of Brown's leadership and scoring ability. With Tatum expected back at some point and the team's recent acquisition of Nikola Vucevic, the Celtics could become true contenders for the Eastern Conference crown once again.

The 27-year-old Tatum is an eight-year veteran of the Celtics who is already a six-time All-Star and an NBA champion. He is a five-time All-NBA selection.
