Tracy McGrady made the comments on a recent podcast appearance, but where is the truth in what he's saying about the Celtics star?

Let's take a look at all of the facts before we jump to a conclusion.

1) On Sunday night, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown went on a Twitch stream and took some shots at the officials for how they handled things in the first round of the playoffs, which the Celtics lost to the 76ers in seven games.

He also took some shots at Joel Embiid for flopping.

But he also gave praise to his teammates, calling this his "favorite year" of playing basketball. The Celtics, in the wake of roster change and adversity, went 56-26 to earn the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. Brown turned in an All-NBA kind of season, averaging 28.7 ppg.

All of that is true.

However, now we're hearing a different side of the story. In a recent podcast appearance, former NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady, a close friend of Brown's, made these comments.

"His frustration lies deeply within the organization and other things that we don't really have details to. There's just been a lot of stuff that I've been hearing going on with the Boston organization, with JB. So I think part of him is like, 'I showed you guys more of who I am as a basketball player—not only just what I did on the basketball court, but the leadership that I displayed within this team. And you've seen that not having our best player in JT, you've seen the different side of me and what I'm able to bring to the game of basketball.' So all that stuff, I think, just came into play with him and his frustration."

Why is Brown frustrated?

I want to make this clear, anything that we opine about is just merely speculation. At this point, we don't even know if McGrady's comments are actually true.

1) Brown can't be frustrated at money. He's already got a max contract, so we can rule that out.

2) He can't be frustrated at his performance this season, as he was one of the best players in the league and earned another All-Star appearance.

3) Does he think that the Celtics organization doesn't value him enough? Even though they've paid him like a star player, does he feel that the front office still sees him as "lesser than" Jayson Tatum? That has been the prevailing thought for years, that Tatum was the best player on the team. Does he Brown think he showed them that he actually is and wants more acknowledgement of that?

Did he get the impression that the organization thought the season was over because Tatum was going to miss so much time with injury, rather than realizing what he could do in his absence? Did he get the impression that the organization was counting down until Tatum came back, ignoring all he'd done to bring them to the success they had?

4) Is he disappointed with Joe Mazzulla for any reason at all? We've never gotten that impression, but all things are on the table.

What can be done?

First, Brown needs to sit down with Brad Stevens and iron out what's real and what's not. The two have a relationship that goes back a decade, so Brown should be able to separate fact from fiction with him.

If everything gets resolved, then the Celtics can re-enter 2026-27 as one of the NBA's favorites. If not? It will be another offseason of trade rumors involving Brown.
