32-point night marks milestone performance in Boston’s win over Hornets.
Jayson Tatum didn’t just look like himself again Sunday night.
He made sure it showed up in the record books, too.
The Boston Celtics (50-24) star delivered his most complete performance since returning from injury, powering a 114-99 win over the Charlotte Hornets (39-36) with a season-high 32 points.
It was the kind of night Boston had been waiting for - efficient, controlled, and unmistakably impactful - as Tatum continues to round into form at exactly the right time.
And while the box score told one story, the history books told another.
Jayson Tatum crossed the 14,000-point threshold for his career, becoming the youngest player in franchise history to reach that mark, passing Paul Pierce in the process.
For a player who’s already built a resume filled with postseason runs and All-NBA seasons, it was another reminder of both his production and his pace.
He wasn’t just scoring. He was clean.
Tatum finished with zero turnovers, marking the 16th game of his career with 30 or more points without a giveaway - the most in Celtics history, ahead of names like Reggie Lewis and Larry Bird.
That combination of volume and control has always been part of what separates him when he’s at his best.
This version of Tatum is what Boston has been building toward.
Since returning from Achilles rehab earlier this month, the rhythm hasn’t always been there. The shooting has fluctuated, the bursts have come and gone, and the Celtics have leaned heavily on Jaylen Brown to carry the load.
But Sunday felt different.
Tatum dictated the game from the start, picking his spots, creating for others, and elevating the offense without forcing it.
It also came in a moment where Boston needed it.
With Brown sidelined and the Celtics still holding firm in the No. 2 seed in the East, Tatum stepped back into the lead role and delivered.
Boston has now hit 50 wins and continues to stack results against a challenging late-season schedule.
If this is the version of Tatum that shows up consistently over the next few weeks, the ceiling for this team looks very familiar.
And very dangerous.
