The Boston Celtics dominated the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday night, winning 114-98 at TD Garden. With the win, the Celtics are 40-20 through 60 games, an amazing accomplishment considering that the team traded away Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holliday in the offseason and has played the entire season without Jayson Tatum.
As has become customary in this MVP-caliber season, Jaylen Brown delivered a great game, scoring 27 points and pulling down eight rebounds while also dishing out eight assists.
Derrick White scored 21 points on 6-of-16 shooting, also recording eight assists, but the night really belonged to Neemias Queta. The big man scored 27 points on 10-14 shooting and pulled down a whopping 17 rebounds, joining Hall of Famer Robert Parish in team history.
Per Taylor Snow on social media:
Queta is the first Celtic with at least 25 points and 10 offensive rebounds since Robert Parish in 1989.
Only Queta, Parish (3X) and Kevin McHale (during his 56-point game) have accomplished the feat since OREB began being tracked in 1983.
You can read the full game story from our own Tom Carroll, who was at the Garden.
A 26-year-old former second-round pick out of Utah State, Queta has been a revelation this season, averaging 10.1 ppg and 8.4 rebounds. In 57 games, he's shooting better than 60 percent from the floor and nearly 70 percent at the line. He never averaged more than 5.5 ppg before this season. He's a five-year veteran of the Sacramento Kings and Celtics.
A 21-year veteran of the Golden State Warriors, Celtics, Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls, Parish is one of the best players in NBA history. A nine-time All-Star, a four-time NBA champion and a two-time All-NBA selection, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003. His 1,611 games played are the most in NBA history.
He averaged 14.5 ppg and 9.1 rebounds. With the Celtics, he averaged 16.5 ppg.
The Celtics are back in action on Monday night at the Milwaukee Bucks (7:30 p.m. ET). They'll return home on Friday following that contest to play the Dallas Mavericks. Two major questions in that one: Will Maine native Cooper Flagg return from injury in time to play in front of his regional fans in New England? And will Tatum make his season debut? Bill Simmons of the Ringer thinks all signs point to it being a reality.
