According to a new report from Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Giannis Antetokounmpo is focused on trying to play for the Miami Heat - if he's traded away from the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason. That runs contradictory to what we heard over the weekend, when it seemed like momentum was building for Antetokounmpo to be traded to the Boston Celtics. 

If Antetokounmpo is traded to Miami, the deal would have a ripple effect for the Celtics, so let's dive in.

Well, the Heat would instantly get one of the best frontcourts in the league with Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, and that duo would likely make life very difficult for Boston when the two teams play each other.

However, with all that Miami would have to give up in order to make the trade, there would be questions about their depth and the strengths of our guards, two things that the Celtics could likely continue to exploit when they play each other. The Celtics may need to look to draft or trade for big men in order to properly match up with Miami. 

Well, the Bucks would begin a rebuild without Antetokounmpo, likely receiving Tyler Herro in a deal from Miami. They would get younger, and cheaper, while also accumulating draft picks. 

This could certainly help re-jumpstart the Bucks as a franchise, but they would cease to be a roadblock for the Celtics - at least for the time being.

Well, Windhorst reports that the Celtics might end up getting involved in this trade in order to help Miami and Milwaukee facilitate it, though it's not clear how. Could the Celtics offload the money that belongs to Sam Hauser or Derrick White? Could they end up trading away draft picks in order to accumulate players? Remember, the Celtics have a $27.7 trade exemption for this offseason. Could they utilize that in order to bring in a player that improves their roster?

Furthermore, by not acquiring Antetokounmpo, the Celtics would be free to keep the Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum duo together for another year, which Celtics fans are split on.

Finally, Antetokounmpo heading to Miami would give the Celtics a new team to be worried about, but if they have no depth and no guard play, are they really a concern in the Eastern Conference? 

The Celtics have two draft picks (No. 27 and No. 40) in the upcoming NBA Draft. The Draft begins on June 23, so will the Celtics keep their picks or move them as part this possible deal? It remains to be seen, but the issue is certainly time sensitive.
