The idea of acquiring the 10-time All-Star is obviously appealing, but there are some hiccups for the C's, at least we think.
At the moment what we have is a lot of speculation about Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Boston Celtics. People have opined that he wants to play in Miami with the Heat and the Heat are the leaders in the clubhouse. Others have said that he wants to come to Boston and would be willing to sign a long-term extension with the Celtics.
And that's only from the Antetokounmpo side; what about the Celtics side? Would they be willing to trade Jaylen Brown? Could they get Antetokounmpo without trading Brown? Are they willing to extend Antetokounmpo at a high-value contract into his mid-30s?
There are a lot of questions and not a lot of definitive reports out there. But as all these rumors swirl, there are two questions that not enough people are asking.
What about Jayson Tatum's injury risk?
Right now, all the worries about making this move from Boston's side is about Antetokounmpo's injury history. And it's a fair worry, because his injury history is extensive. He has played 70 games or more just once in the last seven years.
But what about Jayson Tatum? Remarkably durable throughout his career, Tatum tore his Achilles in the 2025 NBA Playoffs. He missed 66 games last season while recovering and missed Game 7 of the team's first round exit against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Do the Celtics trust Tatum's health enough moving forward to pair him with Antetokounmpo's health risks? Or is that too many health questions with too much money invested in one lineup to make the organization comfortable?

The Celtics were a dominant three-point shooting team this past season. Boston attempted the fourth-most three-pointers per game (42.1), and they made the third-most (15.5).
The big question is: Do the Celtics play that way because that's the way that Joe Mazzulla likes to play, or simply because that's how he believes this roster had to play?
If Antetokounmpo came to Boston, they'd have to change up their style, as the First Things First crew said on Tuesday. That could be good, but is that something that Mazzulla wants to do?

So far, we've profiled the Celtics connections to a number of draft targets, including Alex Karaban and Tarris Reed Jr. of UConn, Zuby Ejiofor and Dillon Mitchell of St. John's, and Henri Veesaar of North Carolina.
But there's a new name to watch for, as ESPN's Jeremy Woo had the Celtics selecting Meleek Thomas out of Arkansas in his most recent mock draft.
