Everything you need to know for the Boston Celtics' home game against the Washington Wizards on March 14, 2026: where to watch, listen, stream info, TV channel, and what happened last game

The Boston Celtics (43-23) return home Saturday night looking to bounce back from a tough loss - and history suggests the Washington Wizards (16-49) might be arriving at the right time.

Boston enters the matchup after a narrow 104-102 defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder (52-15) on Thursday night, a game in which the short-handed Celtics pushed the defending champions to the brink before falling on late free throws.

It was another reminder of how resilient this Boston group has been during a season defined by injuries and lineup shuffling.

Even without Jayson Tatum for long stretches and with multiple rotation players missing time recently, the Celtics have managed to stay firmly near the top of the Eastern Conference standings. Much of that stability has come from the play of Jaylen Brown, who continues to produce at an MVP-caliber level while carrying a larger share of the offensive load.

Boston will also benefit from a schedule shift.

After playing eight of their first 12 games following the All-Star break on the road, the Celtics now begin a stretch in which six of their next seven games will take place at TD Garden. Saturday’s contest marks the first opportunity in that homestand for Boston to reset after a demanding road trip.

The matchup itself has been one-sided this season.

The Celtics have already defeated Washington twice, including a 136-107 win at TD Garden early in the year and a 146-101 blowout in the nation’s capital. In those games, Boston’s depth overwhelmed the Wizards’ defense, with multiple players stepping up even when the Celtics were missing key contributors.

Brown poured in 35 points in the first meeting while the Celtics erased an early double-digit deficit before pulling away comfortably. The second matchup was even more decisive, as Boston produced one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season behind strong nights from players like Derrick White and Jordan Walsh.

Washington, meanwhile, has struggled defensively throughout the season and has often had difficulty keeping pace with Boston’s ball movement and perimeter shooting.

That dynamic makes Saturday’s game feel familiar on paper - but for a Celtics team coming off a narrow loss and heading into a favorable stretch of the schedule, it also represents a chance to regain momentum before the playoff push truly begins.

Missed any of Thursday night’s loss to Oklahoma City? Here’s everything you need to know:

1. A Jaylen Showcase:

Two nights after his ejection against the San Antonio Spurs (48-18) cut short what looked like it was going to be a strong performance for the MVP candidate, Jaylen Brown delivered one of his best all-around efforts of the season.

Brown finished with 34 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists while taking on the bulk of Boston’s scoring responsibility against one of the NBA’s best defenses.

He struggled early and dealt with foul trouble, but took control after halftime and repeatedly kept the Celtics within striking distance.

His turnaround jumper with 23 seconds left tied the game at 102-102 before Holmgren’s late free throws ultimately decided it.

2. Young Wings Keep Showing Up:

With Boston missing multiple starters, several young players stepped into expanded roles - and produced.

Hugo Gonzalez logged 28 minutes while contributing 11 points and 5 rebounds, often drawing challenging defensive assignments.

Ron Harper Jr., fresh off a career-best performance earlier in the week, continued his strong play off the bench, while Jordan Walsh added 8 points and energy on both ends.

The trio helped Boston build a surprising early lead and kept the rotation functioning despite the missing starters.

3. Big Man Rotation:

With Vucevic sidelined for the foreseeable future, Boston’s frontcourt depth remains in flux.

Luka Garza saw extended action, logging 21 minutes and even opening the second half with the starters.

Neemias Queta ultimately closed the game, but the Celtics’ willingness to experiment with Garza reflected the ongoing adjustments within their big man rotation.

Is there a world where Garza “Wall Pipps” Vucevic, the player who was originally brought to Boston to replace Garza altogether?

Crazier things have happened.

4. This Week In Context:

Thursday’s loss wrapped up a demanding three-game road trip for Boston, which finished the stretch 1-2 after also falling to San Antonio earlier in the week.

The Celtics now return home to TD Garden, where six of their next seven games will be played. That stretch begins Saturday against the Washington Wizards - and offers Boston a chance to regroup after a pair of narrow losses to Western Conference contenders.

Nothing says get-right game like a home game against a 16-win Wizards team in mid-March on two days rest.
