There's apparently a new design from Nike.

Recently, we got wind that the Boston Celtics were bringing back one of their previous "City Edition," uniforms. And we've also learned that there is another Nike uniform combination that has just dropped called "Specter."

I'll be honest, at this moment, I don't even know exactly what to say about this other than I'm simply not a fan.

I understand that the alternate jersey game is big right now. Each team wants them. Each team has them. The team store sells them, as well as merchandise related to them. It's all a money-making grab to help attract the younger demographic. I get all of that.

These uniforms simply don't make any sense. At this point, we don't know how many times the C's will actually wear these, but let's hope it's as few as possible. Only eight teams were included as part of the uniform rollout.

Also in the news for the Celtics

--More congratulations are in order for former Celtics assistant coach Kara Lawson, who led the Team USA Women's National Team to the semifinals of the FIBA World Cup with a 108-56 win over Hungary on Thursday morning in Berlin, Germany.

They'll plain Spain in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon with the championship coming on Sunday.

Should the Americans win, it will be their 12th World Cup gold medal all-time. They haven't lost a World Cup contest since a 2006 loss to Russia. They've won every Olympic gold medal since 1996.

Lawson spent one season with the Celtics (2019-20), leaving the team in the NBA Bubble to become the head women's coach at Duke. The Celtics got to the Eastern Conference Finals that season, losing to the Miami Heat in six games.

Up next for Boston

Training camp begins on Sept. 29 and the preseason opener is set for Oct. 8. The Celtics will play four preseason games, including two against the Philadelphia 76ers, before opening up the regular season on Oct. 20 at the Detroit Pistons.

The Celtics went 56-26 a year ago and earned the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. They were beaten by Philadelphia in the first round in seven games.

While several pundits still think the Celtics will be very good in the regular season, we have our doubts about their overall standing in the Eastern Conference. I've said on multiple occasions that I see the Celtics as a No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the East this year, with Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia, New York, and possibly Toronto, ahead of them.
