Mazzulla and his team are set to visit the Citadel this weekend.
Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla is taking his team to the Citadel over the weekend for some team building, some bonding and to learn about military leadership.
Mazzulla told reporters that he loves learning about military leadership and that this is a way for his team to spend some time with each other in a different environment.
Obviously, the Celtics have been in training camp for nearly a week now and this is certainly a way to break up the monotony of it all. Getting on a plane and traveling together is a long-established way to build team chemistry, chemistry that is going to be necessary as you go through a long season.
Mazzulla said that he's made this trip before, but it's been nearly a decade and he's looking forward to going again with several different people who have never been before.
The Celtics won't have long at the Citadel, as they'll have to get back on the floor soon to start prepping for the preseason opener, which is Oct. 8. Boston will play four preseason games in total before opening up the regular season on Oct. 20 against the Detroit Pistons.
The Pistons were the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last year while the Celtics earned the No. 2 seed.

Rookie Chris Cenac Jr., who was taken No. 27 overall in the NBA Draft this spring, was working on his 3-point shot on Friday at practice, and he looked pretty good doing it. The 6-foot-11 center attempted more than 2 three's a game at Houston last season, but only shot 33 percent. If he can iron out his jumper, then he can give himself an opportunity to find more minutes with the Celtics, who are known to like pick-and-pop big men.
Mitchell happy to be in Boston
Rookie Dillon Mitchell, who was taken after Cenac (2nd round) in the draft said he never considered going back to school at St. John's, despite the "age-based eligibility model" possibly giving recent outgoing seniors another year of eligibility. He's happy to be on his professional journey and it's going to be interesting if he gets time in the NBA or starts in the G-League. The G-League season begins Nov. 6.
Phil Pressy was just named the head coach of the G-League Celtics. It will be the second straight year that he's the head coach.
