The Los Angeles Clippers have finally completed the Kawhi Leonard trade.

The Kawhi Leonard era in Los Angeles is officially over.

After being held up due to the league investigating Kawhi and the Los Angeles Clippers over allegations of salary cap circumvention, Kawhi has officially been traded to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round draft picks in 2031 and 2033, one first-round pick swap in 2027, and two second-round draft picks in 2030 and 2033.

ESPN first reported the news.

The trade was agreed to in June, but was put on pause due to the investigation and the Raptors assuming responsibility for any punishment that would be handed down to Kawhi, meaning that if his contract was voided or he was suspended, that would hurt Toronto and not Los Angeles, as he would no longer be on the team.

The league ruled that Kawhi had to pay $700,000 in restitution for his involvement in the “no-show” job with Aspiration that was set up through Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and the team, but he did not face any contract punishment.

What’s Next?

Despite the trade being held up and uncertainty around the franchise with the investigation ongoing, the Clippers had a busy offseason. They signed Rui Hachimura to potentially be the starting power forward, and let go of restricted free agent Bennedict Mathurin, who signed with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Clippers will now welcome Ingram and Dick as two pieces to their lineup this upcoming season.

Ingram was an All-Star in 2025-26, averaging 21.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 47% shooting from the field and 38% from three. He has two years left on his deal with a player option worth $41.9 million to be decided in the 2027 offseason. He and Darius Garland will be the focal points for the Clippers this season.

Dick averaged six points and 41% shooting from the field, but only 30% from three last season. His three-point shooting hasn’t translated to the NBA the way he shot in college. He is on the final year of his rookie deal. The hope is that a change of scenery will unlock him.

The Draft Picks

Getting back two unprotected first-round picks for the Clippers is a huge deal considering what they lost when the league ruled on its investigation. While Kawhi faced minimal punishment and Clippers executives were suspended, the team lost first-round picks, including their own 2031 and 2033, along with 2029, 2030, and 2032 from other teams.

The picks from the Raptors give them a more promising outlook moving forward, when it looked like their pick chest was going to be even thinner.
