What will the Los Angeles Clippers starting lineup look like?

The Los Angeles Clippers are still working their way through the preseason, but they’ve already received some bad news regarding their opening night rotation.

According to Tomer Azary, the Clippers will be without Brandon Ingram and Yanic Konan Niederhauser to start the year.

Ingram is dealing with a heel injury, which he underwent surgery for last May. The procedure included a repair in his partially torn right Achilles tendon. Ingram could play sooner than anticipated, but the Clippers are expected to be cautious with him.

Neiderhauser underwent surgery for a Lisfranc injury that he suffered in March, which ended his rookie season after 41 games.

What This Means For Ingram and Neiderhauser

Ingram was tabbed as one of the starters after being acquired from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Kawhi Leonard.

The Clippers don’t have a ton of offensive firepower, but Ingram was expected to carry the load as he’s a great scorer and self-creator. He and Darius Garland were going to lead the team offensively, but now more offensive pressure falls on Garland's shoulders.

Neiderhauser looked solid in limited minutes as a rookie, and there was room for growth coming into his sophomore season. After not having the offseason to truly work out, it’s unclear where he’ll be when he returns to the court.

The Clippers are weak when it comes to frontcourt depth, relying on Brook Lopez and Isaiah Jackson at the center spot. Neiderhauser was going to fill some minutes if nothing else.

What This Means For The Clippers

Two of the five players who were expected to be in the opening night starting lineup are now out to start the season.

Along with Ingram, the Clippers got bad news on Max Strus, who suffered a foot injury in the Clippers’ first preseason game against the Golden State Warriors.

Ingram and Strus were going to be in the starting lineup. With Ingram out, the Clippers can at least turn to Rui Hachimura to fill the offensive void at the forward position. Hachimura is a three-level scorer, and while he’s not quite the self-creator that Ingram is, he’s an all-around shooter.

With Strus out, they’ll turn to rookie Keaton Wagler, who isn’t the connector that Strus is, but has more individual upside as a scorer.

Neiderhauser wasn’t expected to play big minutes, but they’ll feel his loss given their lack of frontcourt depth.

It’s not ideal to be missing two of your five starters, but it’s the reality facing Los Angeles when they take the floor on opening night on October 21 against the Sacramento Kings.
