The Los Angeles Clippers are the worst team in the league?

The NBA season has yet to start, and already fans and pundits are down on the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Clippers had an up-and-down offseason, drafting Keaton Wagler with the fifth overall pick, signing Rui Hachimura, and acquiring Max Strus.

But their downs were very down as they traded Kawhi Leonard and were docked five first-round picks

They did get Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, and multiple first-round picks from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Leonard, but Ingram will be sidelined to start the year with an injury.

Bleacher Report published its latest power rankings, and the Clippers came in at number 30, a six-spot drop from their previous power rankings despite the season not starting.

They are now below the Sacramento Kings, Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Memphis Grizzlies, and New Orleans Pelicans, all of whom they were ahead of previously.

What Changed?

The loss of Ingram is not insignificant as he was going to be the main offensive engine alongside Darius Garland to start the season.

Without him, much of the offense falls on Garland, Rui Hachimura, and rookie Keaton Wagler.

Those three aren’t exactly scaring most defenses.

But below the Sacramento Kings? Even without Ingram, the Kings have very little going for them going into the season. There’s no argument for them to be above the Milwaukee Bucks as well, given how many new pieces they’ve added and questions of how they will work together, on top of not having any high-end talent.

Are They Truly The Worst In The West?

The Kings made no significant improvements in the offseason and are banking on Darius Acuff Jr. to make an immediate impact as a rookie. Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis are good players, but in the same tier as Garland. The Clippers have slightly more depth and a better coach.

The Grizzlies have a lot of young players to be excited about, but it’s an unproven team whose best player is either rookie Cameron Boozer or Jerami Grant.

It’s tough to say they are definitively better than the Clippers, given the fact that the Clippers have more proven talent and a deeper team that isn’t going to rely on young players.

Then there are the Pelicans, who have flirted with potential for years, but have yet to live up to expectations. Maybe this will be the year.

The Clippers are not a great team. They will likely not be a play-in team. Not having Ingram to start the season is going to hurt. But worse than the Kings?
