Clippers Suffer Another Loss vs Rockets as Crucial Mistakes Pile Up cover image

The Clippers are 6-19 this season after their most recent loss.

The Clippers bad season has gotten worse with another tight loss, this time against the Houston Rockets on Thursday night.

Los Angeles dropped the game 113-115, tying them with the New Orleans Pelicans for the worst record in clutch games at 2-10 this season, per Law Murray. The loss plunges the Clippers to 6-19 this season as the season falls further and further out of salvageable territory.

The Rockets out-rebounded the Clippers 51-28, taking precious shot opportunities away from Los Angeles even though the team shot better from the field and had just as many made free throws as the Rockets had free throw attempts.

Mental Mistakes and Turnovers Decided the Game

Costly turnovers and mental errors sealed the Clippers' fate when the game came down to the wire.

Despite a 33 point performance by Ivica Zubac and 20+ point performances from both Kawhi Leonard and James Harden, a late foul by Leonard gave the ball back to the Rockets with just 11 seconds left, giving them the control they needed to maintain their lead as the Clippers attempted to rally.

The Clippers have the talent to win games and the amount of veterans they have on their team should lend them the experience needed to hold on to tight games, but that has clearly not been the case this season. Instead, Los Angeles has allowed any advantage the team could have had to slip away and when it comes down to crunch time, they simply aren't able to keep up.

There weren't any media availabilities from either head coach Ty Lue or any of the players after the game, but is due to more to a lack of away game coverage by media members than any reluctance from the Clippers to speak after games.

The Clippers Have a Lot to Address

There is such a long list of problems with the Clippers this season that there a singular issue that can be fixed with a mid-season acquisition or simple change in mentality.

Whether it's bad luck or sloppy play, the Clippers have not been able to find wins on a consistent basis. This season seems out of reach at this point and there will be a long reckoning ahead for how the team can get better. They're ranked 27th or lower in the NBA in average points, rebounds and assists.

A bright spot for Los Angeles is that they commit the fifth-least personal fouls in the NBA, though that could be an indication of either clean play by Los Angeles or a lack of physicality that permits opposing teams to run past the Clippers defense.

Thursday night was another chapter in the Clippers' unfortunate season and in many ways it's been representative of the many problems holding the team back.
