Darius Garland went through quite a rollercoaster last season. He began the season as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team that looked to be in a great spot for a playoff run, and all of sudden he was sent to the Los Angeles Clippers at the deadline in a shocking trade for James Harden. 

Now, all of sudden, Garland was in a vastly different media market playing for a team that was in a much different place tha the Cavaliers were, especially after the Clippers traded both Harden and Ivica Zubac at the deadline after a massive run of success that corrected the Clippers' dire start to the season, and Garland was all of a sudden a major focal point.

He began his time with the Clippers injured, but as soon as he healed up and was on the court he made an immediate impact, becoming one of their most crucial offensive players alongside Kawhi Leonard. 

Now Garland is looking ahead to his first full season in Los Angeles and in a recent interview with HoopsHype, he reflected on his past year and what he's prepared to be for the Clippers in the 2026-27 season. 

"It's like a revamp, really. Coming to a bigger city, a bigger market. It's a lot of winning to show... it's super cool. It's a great challenge, great responsibility as well," Garland said (via HoopsHype). "So, I'm super happy just to take that on... to have full year under my belt, full training camp, having some time with T-Lue [Ty Lue], I'm super excited about this year."

This is a very different team than the one that Garland was traded to with the Clippers in full rebuild mode, something that will be even more apparent if and when the Clippers' trade of Leonard to the Toronto Raptors goes through, and as Garland touched on, he will have a lot of responsibilities with the team. 

The Clippers have become such a young roster overall with major contributions expected from players like Kobe Sanders, Jordan Miller and Keaton Wagler, just to name a few, and Garland will all of a sudden find himself being a veteran on the team and a clear offensive leader once the season gets underway.

That will be mostly new territory for Garland and it will be in many ways a new series of challenges. But it will also be an opportunity for Garland to prove himself as a premier player and help the Clippers establish a new era with their rebuild being so aggressive. 

Having a full season ahead of him in one place will surely help so that he can have the time and the security to get to know his teammates and his head coach Ty Lue even more, but there will be big things expected of Garland in the coming months and if his statements to HoopsHype are any indication, he's ready for the challenge.
