It’s been a whirlwind of an offseason for the Los Angeles Clippers, coming off the heels of missing the playoffs and trading James Harden and Ivica Zubac during the season.

They started the offseason by finding a trade for Kawhi Leonard, sending him to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, and draft compensation, but the trade was held up due to the league's investigation into salary cap circumvention.

The end of the investigation saw the league take away five first-round picks from the Clippers.

There were positives in the offseason as they drafted Keaton Wagler fifth overall, signed Rui Hachimura, acquired Max Strus, and retained Bradley Beal.

But along with losing Kawhi and five first-round picks, they also lost Bennedict Mathurin for nothing.

Overall, how did they do in the offseason?

The positive moves were positive, but the negative moves were very negative.

The offseason can’t be talked about without mentioning the league punishing them by taking five first-round picks. It’s a huge loss for an organization that was just recovering from trading Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and five other first-round picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Their future went from looking pretty good, especially with the picks they got in the Kawhi trade, to looking nearly unsalvageable, as they are expected to be at the bottom of the Western Conference and have no lottery picks on the horizon.

Though they got back multiple first-round picks and an All-Star in Brandon Ingram, the Kawhi trade to Toronto was never going to look favorable with Kawhi coming off one of the best seasons of his career and looking healthier than ever.

Losing Mathurin, who was a key piece in the Zubac trade to Indiana, for nothing to the Pelicans was also a big blow.

In trading their franchise superstar and losing five first round picks, not to mention seeing multiple executives getting suspended, it looks like a bad offseason for the Clippers.

But there were positives.

Hachimura adds another scoring punch to the team, whether he’s a starter or coming off the bench. Strus fits multiple looks with his versatility and competitiveness, and has chemistry with point guard Darius Garland.

Bringing back Beal gives them a veteran familiar with the team and staff who might be able to contribute off the bench.

The biggest piece in the offseason was drafting Wagler fifth overall as they got a little bit of lottery luck with the Indiana Pacers falling.

Still, the fallout from the Kawhi trade and investigation makes this losing offseason.
